tips for a brighter future. adding a spin on futurism, photographer felix lammers creates a bright, clean, almost sterile environment where each image is infused w/a cool glow. spring 2012′s metallic & mesh fabrics, architectural shapes & the year’s most noticeable beauty look, the sequin dotted eyes (first spotted at givenchy ss12), are the key details in achieving a clean & bright futuristic look.

“jason wu [ready-to-wear spring/summer 2012] found a markedly american sense of ease & grace. there was no overcooked severity or theatricality — the wu woman turns heads w/a much less cloying sense of poise.” vogue uk
the refinement of couture combined w/the dynamism of the pop art movement is the inspiration behind wu’s rtw ss12 collection. wu offsets his sharply articulated waistlines w/rippling peplums & full skirts. chartreuse & pink pieces play a bold contrast to gauzy blouses (many sleeveless & shown w/meticulously beaded collars) & beautifully crafted pants in black, grey & white — or a monochrome floral print made in collaboration w/artist kaws. wu must sense that his evening wear has become a sought-after staple; the designer offers richly coloured confections featuring brightly coloured tiers of cascading silk gazar.

stylish oblivion. the protagonist curls her hair & dresses into pristinely elegant & feminine gowns — but it seems she has something on her mind. her pensive expression & blank stares suggest that state of mind when thoughts are bound up by the impenetrable ropes of an obsession. as the shoot’s title, oblivion, suggests: to the rest of the world, she’s oblivious.

the flirty yet faithful 50s. the concept of taking the 1950s-bombshell look out of europe & planting it in the streets of brooklyn is given a little bit of rawness by way of terry richardson’s hand. while sexily styled by brana wolf & w/a dedication to the era that borders on costume, we’re reminded that mixing up vintage & modern is the best way to make any 50s look a street-ready one.
