beauté blanche. there’s something about the colour white that reflects a person’s innocence, youth & unadulterated sensuality. it’s clean, calm & gentle in the most obvious fashion, but white possesses an angelic aura that comes alive like no other colour.
in this beautiful editorial the notion of white beauty is explored through the means of tulips, roses, lilies & plenty of sheer fabrics. the presence of flowers in each frame reinstates its purity, giving more character & voice to the model.

scrapbooking arizona muse. so thematic is prada’s retro-inspired spring/summer 2012 collection that it’s destined to end up at the centre of editorial after editorial (after editorial). you can leave it to photographer paolo roversi to be completely unfazed by all that’s gone before, sidelining the rockabilly hot-rod elements in favour of a honed-in look at the ladylike details of the collection. roversi ‘scrapbook’s’ colour photos w/vintage veneer of a classically styled arizona muse atop black & white photos of his muse (pun intended) posing nude.

fantasy lookbook. in 1956 richard hamilton produced a photomontage; a mash-up of comics, newspapers, advertising, cars, food, celebrities, sex, space age, television & movies. it’s considered to be one of the earliest works of the pop art movement. hamilton’s collages commented on popular culture, mass-production & consumerism — precisely what pop art was all about.
prada’s latest lookbook for spring 2012 doesn’t just reference 50s & 60s fashion revivals, but rather a faithful collage of pop culture of the day: space race, modern metropolis, quote from martin luther king, newspaper clipping, advertising & of course, the american dream. the lookbook suggests that prada’s collection wasn’t just drawing its inspiration from the aesthetics of the 50s & 60s but from how society saw itself.
