hedi gores, co-founder of pressed juicery & the chalkboard. hedi gores’ closet is essentially a rodeo drive boutique filled w/racks of clothes & perfectly-placed shoes where the heels are expertly displayed in fresh form. gores’s digs are an eclectic mix of new-meets-old, complete w/rich velvet fabrics, quirky taxidermy & modern detailing — including a custom graffiti wall in her son’s bedroom. from her selection of printed balenciaga skirts to her collection of classic hermès bags, gores has a style that borders cool & classic. & even though her closet is a sea of colourful, whimsical heels, gores always goes back to the simple black pump. “i love the opportunity to be grand, but it’s the classics that are key to who i am.”

listed in alphabetical order: amy poehler, fontini; anja rubik, anthony vaccarello; anna wintour, prada; ashley greene, donna karan; bee schaffer, erdem; beyoncé, givenchy; bianca brandolini d’adda, dolce & gabbana; camilla belle, ralph lauren; carey mulligan, prada; cate blanchett, alexander mcqueen.

alessandra codinha, columnist for women’s wear daily new york, shares her fashion essentials w/garance doré.

top: i love this wes gordon sweater. it’s so luxurious; i want to live in it.
jeans: j brand, levi’s, isabel marant.
coat: i am all about the vintage fur. i steal them from my mother or scour vintage markets for them.
handbag: in the summer, i carry [a] basket [from a] small town along the costa brava of spain.
shoes: in the summer, leather sandals; k. jacques or something simple. bootleg [a store] based out of an airstream in austin, texas has great sandals.
jewelry: i wear two rings from my grandmother every day & perpetually begging my mother to lend me pieces for special events. one of the things i love about jewelry is the history behind it: the elements of it last forever, it can be passed down through generations. as far as “fashion jewelry:” i love bliss lau’s designs: her body chains; her hand pieces. the piece i wear on my right hand is bliss lau. i bought it one day  haven’t really taken it off since.
timepiece: i don’t wear one anymore! i bought [a] primary-colored, plastic nixon watch on a whim at colette [in paris] & ended up wearing it every single day for the past four years. i loved it to death. the battery died twice, i had it revived & then the band snapped in half & it was over. now i’m on the lookout for a new one.
glasses: thierry lasry
inspiration: there’s this gore vidal idea, that “style is knowing who you are & what you want to say & not giving a damn.”

mcq fall/winter 2012. volume & strict waist cinching has become part of the mcq aesthetic. that strict femininity that hides yet celebrates the female form, here in hem lengths that dust the knees & silhouettes that border on military heaviness. if done wrong, such cuts could lose their appeal, but keeping the waist tight ensures that never happens. thigh-high lace-up boots, chain detail on wide belts, long leather gloves & dark, rich furs take shapes that border on victorian yet decidedly tough. tartan pieces, lace blouses & floral embroidery add youthfulness to the more mature, full-volume dresses & structured coats.
