tips for a brighter future. adding a spin on futurism, photographer felix lammers creates a bright, clean, almost sterile environment where each image is infused w/a cool glow. spring 2012′s metallic & mesh fabrics, architectural shapes & the year’s most noticeable beauty look, the sequin dotted eyes (first spotted at givenchy ss12), are the key details in achieving a clean & bright futuristic look.

heaven tanudiredja fall/winter 2012. elaborate is certainly a word you might use to describe heaven tanudiredja’s jewellery pieces; though they’re not elaborate in the way that perhaps most jewellery are. tanudiredja’s offerings are always a mix of soft classicism & hard futurism, traditional shapes & avant garde details. indonesian born, but established as a label in belgium, tanudiredja is known for creating statements. fall 2012 pieces are beaded & spiked in ways that call to mind decorative armor — you’ll even notice the odd maltese cross shape working its way into necklaces & bibs — but the colour palette is decidedly modern. other black & gold pieces have a techno-futurism that could easily be based in the art deco movement. all, as you’ll see from the collection’s lookbook, are impressive statement pieces.

shabby chic, mid-american century kitsch shaken w/modern glamour. inspired by googie architecture – i.e.: 1950s south-cali diners, miami beach motels retro-futurism – lazaro hernandez & jack mccollough work their magic w/the elements of the genre. expect fitting silhouettes in tropical prints, bodices fashioned like esther william’s swimsuits, glimpses of animal prints, shades of burt-orange & bakelite-green, motel wallpaper patterns imitated rhinestones against the surface of sheer translucent fabrics.

proenza schouler’s well-thought-out campaign, featuring natasha poly shot by willy vandeperre, is reminiscent of 1950s pin-up-girl-meets-office-secretary perched on ‘jetsons-moderne’ chairs against a raffia backdrop. the label pushes their googie-inspo beyond the clothes & the ambiance; poly’s rockabilly hair finished w/2012 wet-hair look & leather peep-toe shoes designed w/a two-inch block heel carved out of a wedge made of laminated wood. although 1950s inspired, proenza schouler spring 2012 is of-the-moment.
