maison martin margiela pre-spring 2013. austere & encompassed by a mysterious loneliness, the fashion house shapes silk, cashmere & organza, in neutral hues, into straight, soft, slightly flared pieces. menswear & minimalism are the keywords that describe pre-spring 2013’s femininity for only sporadic flairs such as a mother-of-pearl sequin blazer or a patchwork top w/a geometric touch are allowed.

balmain pre-fall 2012, olivier rousteing trades las vegas for st. petersburg & nudie suits for fabergé eggs. balmainiacs will recognize some elements of his new pre-fall collection — perfecto encrusted w/pearls & crystals, long-sleeve minidress w/the famous strong shoulders — but rousteing is determined to redefine the house codes.
to start, rousteing looks at czarist russia — there’s nothing scruffy about the imperial palace & there’s nothing scruffy about the new balmain look, either. the collection shows plenty of jeans, but in place of holes he prints them w/wallpaper florals & tea-dyes the denim for a lived-in look. most importantly he doesn’t forget about the sexy factor & the stretchy dévoré dress is proof of that.

“a romantic way to see death.” ricardo tisci
for givenchy couture fall 2010 a black palette does not have its use to implement riccardo tisci’s gothic inclinations. the feathers tinted brown is the darkest colour in the collection all else is a variant of white or gold.
moved by artist frida kahlo’s three fascinations — religion, sensuality & human anatomy — the prevailing theme of the collection is the skeleton. whether the skeleton is made of lace & appliquéd on tulle or three dimensioned w/crystals & pearls, tisci labels the couture as “a romantic way to see death.”
his obsessive commitment to realizing his vision is found in each of the ten designs: lace cat suits each decked w/a life size swarovski crystal skeleton that require 1,600 hours to craft; lace dresses that need six months work including dresses coated in gold paillettes, stones & beads — nearly too heavy to lift.
the bi-annual reveal of givenchy couture is the fashion highlight that feeds my inspiration, pushes my motivation & reminds me that i can realize my imaginings. givenchy couture fall 2010 was revealed in 2009 & since its reveal my appreciation for fashion art & history has taught me that dreams become reality if you form them as life-long goals.
featured in this post is the complete collection. enjoy!
