beauté blanche. there’s something about the colour white that reflects a person’s innocence, youth & unadulterated sensuality. it’s clean, calm & gentle in the most obvious fashion, but white possesses an angelic aura that comes alive like no other colour.
in this beautiful editorial the notion of white beauty is explored through the means of tulips, roses, lilies & plenty of sheer fabrics. the presence of flowers in each frame reinstates its purity, giving more character & voice to the model.

elie saab couture spring 2012 is even more diaphanous than prior seasons. the slimmer lines & embroidered patterns of his long flowing skirts (saab’s specialty) are sweet, brilliant & virginal. tone-on-tone embroidery of sparkling flowers give a lighter feel compared to his recent couture collections. on the runway he showed full-skirted party frocks & slim evening gowns in a rainbow of pastel shades, nearly all of them sparkly. what separates one from the next is the cut of the neckline, presence or absence of sleeves, length of a train & the occasional cape. the oversize botanical print is nearly regarded as an afterthought amid the white, pink, peach, yellow, green & blue. despite all the handwork, these dresses—w/the exception of an uncharacteristically heavy wedding gown—appear almost weightless.

gucci pre-fall 2012 is a subdued, flowing & minimalist interpretation of the jazz age, an era channeled by fashion designer extraordinaire, frida giannini. her follow-up collection for fall includes a medley of straight minimalism, vibrant red matched w/variations of grey, brown, beige & white & a youthful poppy print – the exemplary mix fit for the direction of the season. & of course!, it wouldn’t be gucci w/out extravagant, affluent furs. my fave piece: natural red fox jacket inlaid w/a black chevron design (look no. 5) – i’d die.
